The Buffalo Island Central Lady Mustangs will tip-off this Thursday afternoon at the Bobby D. Hulse Memorial Basketball Classic at Norfork High School in Norfork, AR to begin their 2023-2024 season.
The Lady Mustangs return four starters from a team that finished 17-15 last year, falling just short of a regional tournament bid. When asked about the upcoming season, head coach Trevor Matheny said, “We were very unhappy with our finish in the district tournament last year. Our sights are set on the regional tournament and we know anything can happen from there on.”
Of the returning starters, Hadlie Goodson (Soph.), Hallee Wells (Senior), and Riley Parker (Junior) were selected as 2A-3 all-conference players last season. “(Hadlie) Goodson led us in scoring as a freshman, (Riley) Parker led us on the boards, and (Hallee) Wells is looking to fill a new role in her senior season,” said Matheny. “We are just ready to kick the season off and play against someone other than ourselves. I feel we have several that will contribute in key roles with any success we have this season. It’s always good to return a majority of your starters and to add a few new role players.”
The Lady Mustangs will face Norfork High School on Thursday, October 19th at 4:30 PM and Viola High School at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 20th.
